There are ways to keep healthy without my assistance:

EAT WELL

There are some basic easy to follow rules to eating well and I am sure you have heard them all before - but I shall remind you again. A low kilojoule/calorie and high-fibre diet, which includes the 5 food groups, is the safest and healthiest diet to follow. The 5 food groups are: grain, fruit, vegetables, protein, dairy.

In general the following is recommended:

Recommended Daily Intake

No of Cal/

Fibre

Fat

Carbohydrates

Protein

Women

2,000cal/8,400Kj

25g

65g

300g

60g

Men

2,500cal/10,500Kj

Drink at least 8 glasses of filtered water per day (change filter regularly). Eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day. Limit foods with empty calories (excessive fats and sugars) Remember the more weight you carry the more stress is placed on your spine, your circulation is compromised and your blood pressure is increased. All of which will reduce your energy levels and life will become more difficult which in turn will increase your stress levels.

Alcohol should be limited to 21 units per week for men and 14 for women - 1 unit = 125ml of wine, 25ml of spirit at 40% and 250ml of beer at 3.5%. Remember if you suffer from gout or generally have aching joints Ð too much red wine will only increase your suffering.

If you are on a weight loss programme be realistic and patient - if you set your goals too high over a short period of time - the chances are you will be disappointed and console yourself with a bar of chocolate.

EXERCISE

Exercise in any form is beneficial as long as it is an exercise that suits your body needs - seek professional advice if you are unsure. Exercise also helps the mind and is a great stress reliever. Vitamin of the month - Vitamin C (Ester C is a good form with lower acidity levels) - it helps boost the immune system and it also supports the matrix of the joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles.

Finally - if you smoke cut down and then eventually stop. There are NO benefits in smoking.

Here's to your good health!
